Hey Dave

I thought the organisation from go to wo was terrific. A very pleasant surprise for me was the organisation, variety and amount of food and drinks at the refreshment stops. At Balhannah helpers were walking around with lollies and cake and at Kangaroo Creek a helper even asked me if he could take my bidons for me and fill them with Powerade......um, yes please and thank you! Then back at Vic Sq it was production-line efficiency for bangas-in-bread, Subway and fizzy drinks; nice one.

It was a tough but achievable course for people like me with average fitness; I suppose that just adds to the satisfaction at the finish. Having the finish in Adelaide, as compared to say, a Victor Harbor finish, was a great idea and would suit most people, I would think. The timing of the event was also very good; right at the start of the TDU and gives us mere mortals a few days to recover before the Challenge Tour.

My only constructive criticism is that lots of wheelie-bins should have been provided at the finish, because it looked a bit ordinary afterwards with heaps of rubbish stacked up around the outside of the permanent bins in the Square. Riders who just got up from the grass in Vic Sq. and left their wrappers and serviettes laying around should be shot (or perhaps tazered by the STAR Force.....I'd pay good money to see that).

I'm looking forward to RLC 2011. Well done.

Noticed a fewfreeloaders and a few dickheads who are incredibly fast/dangerous on the downhills, way to close to other riders (had to laugh when I saw one such guy walking his bike up the next uphill)..

None of the above is the fault of the organizers though..

The only thing that probably could have been done better was directing the route back into town (and the route itself). When I was riding home I was suprised to see heaps of people coming into town in RLC jerseys down Payneham Rd. Either they took a shortcut on purpose or got lost as it wasn't the intended way back into town via Glen Osmond Rd that most of us followed...

Message from Dave Scutchings

Monday 18th January and everything has quietened down......................

A quick message to update everyone with expanded details to come out later when we have settled down a bit.

About 1750 riders (1250 long/500 short) took part in Ride Like Crazy 2010. The few showers on the day did not dampen the overall enthusiasm and if the number of positive emails we are receiving is an indicator, then most people had a thoroughly enjoyable day.

We are extremely appreciative of the 120-150 volunteers that gave their time to make the event a success. Without them we would be nowhere.

Additionally the sponsors who contributed made sure that (a) the event could go ahead (b) everyone could receive food and drink and (c) that the maximum amount of money could go to the charities. We thank them and ask that you consider supporting them where possible.. link

Personally I was disappointed to see a number of riders hanging around at the start of the event, clearly on very expensive bikes and wearing the gucci kit, and clearly having short arms and long pockets and being too tight to pay $100 towards the charity to participate. And then when they rode amongst the main peleton it was clear that they were saying "Hey look at me on my fancy bike!". But hey, free loaders are everywhere unfortunately......

Finally, for anyone who reads this and has either positive or negative feedback I would be very appreciative if you could send an email to link because guaranteed, if we are going to do it again next year we want it to be bigger and better...........

thanks again

Dear Cycle2Max members...

With 7 days to go I thought it appropriate to provide an update....

1. with over 1600 registered riders and supporters onboard we are obviously very happy (up from 660 in 2009). YOU CAN STILL REGISTER!!!!!!!!!!!

2. the weather gods appear to be smiling (touch wood) with a long range forecast of 21 for Sunday

3. I had the pleasure of having a coffee with Phil Anderson and Pat Jonkers. Two gentlemen who I could only describe as consumate professionals but at the same time extremely friendly and helpful. both are riding in Ride Like Crazy. A great chance to ride with two legends of Australian Cycling.

4. $100 to enter. Cheaper than most other rides and a GUARANTEE that every cent of profit goes straight to the charities. As important, that $100 gets you into the draw for some fantastic prizes including a helicopter flight to the McLaren Vale and a signed Lance Armstrong photo.

5. Do you know someone who is "pondering" about whether to enter. Please help us boost our numbers in the final week. The bigger the peleton, the bigger the smile on the kids faces.

6. Lance? A commonly asked question which might only be answered on the day............

7. RLC v Mutual Challenge??? Why not do both. A great warm up ride of 109 km should get you set for Friday.

Irrespective of whether RLC appears to you, we trust you'll have an enjoyable couple of weeks as cycling hits Adelaide........................

Gday Jase

Unfortunately it takes 6 weeks to manufacture the jerseys therefore the majority that register after November 30 won't get them until well after the ride. Due to the fact that we are trying to direct every cent towards charity we couldn't afford to take a gamble and preorder thousands of them in case only a thousand riders registered. The Xmas/New Year break (majority of people not working for about ten days) also impacted on the delivery times. So, as much as I would do everything I could to provide everyone with a jersey for the day, unfortunately I can't do it....

Look forward to seeing you out there though.

Cheers

Dave

Happy New Year to everyone with 15 sleeps to go before Ride Like Crazy......

I thought I'd let everyone know about some more exciting news coming from Ride Like Crazy central.

EVERY registered rider will go into the draw to win a personally signed 8x10 Lance Armstrong photograph kindly donated by the Lance Armstrong Foundation who are supporting Ride Like Crazy.

EVERY registered rider will go into the draw to win a helicopter flight for yourself and three friends to Mclaren Vale where you will enjoy lunch at McLarens on the Lake before being flown back to Adelaide and dropped at your house in a hire car. What a way to spend the day....... (kindly donated by Australian Helicopters)

EVERY registered supporter will go into the draw to win a 3 night escape package to a holiday house at Robe kindly donated by Jon Halliday (feel free to contact us for further details of this fantastic house)

I have been asked on a number of occasions if we have a plan to stop "non-registered" cyclists taking part. Simply put, we can't stop them. However, if you know someone who is thinking about coming for the ride and taking part in the experience ask them to think about this......

There are a heap of kids sitting in the Womens and Childrens hospital who would love to pay $100 to be involved but are too sick.
A big announcement from the Ride Like Crazy team.... The Ride Like Crazy Challenge....

The Challenge is your chance to raise a few extra dollars for Ride Like Crazy for the Women's and Children's Hospital Foundation and Neurosurgical Research Foundation prior to the ride on Sunday 17 January 2010.

First Prize is an amazing scenic flight experience including lunch with Australian Helicopters. You and three friends will be collected from your home in a private hire car, driven to the airport where you will board a helicopter and enjoy a flight to McLaren Vale. At McLaren Vale you can indulge in a 3 course lunch at McLaren's on the Lake before returning home. This prize is valued at $2000. Can you think of a better way to spend a day?

There are an array of other fantastic prizes.....

The basics are as follows:
* download the challenge donor sheet
* collect tax deductible donations which go straight to the charity (no hidden admin fees here)
* the rider/supporter who raises the most money wins the prize, 2nd gets second prize etc.

For full details check out link

With about six weeks to go until Ride Like Crazy everything is progressing very well. Cyclists from all over the country are taking part in the event.

Most importantly registrations are open up until the day before the event.

From our point of view, the more people that ride, the more money goes straight to charity and the more people join the fight against cancer...

So please..... help us by registering for this great event....

Id love feedback about it though.. I can tel u that over 5000 people from 20 countries have checked out the website.. I can also tell u that every state and teritory of australia is represented by a rider... Being the person on the end of the rlc phone and email lets me gain the best appreciation of the feeling surrounding the ride this year.. I can confidently say that crazy would be very proud.. Yes.. I am excited... if u have got a mate who hasnt registered tap him on the shoulder and point him our way.. The kids at wch will appreciate it.

Good to see more people getting on board with the RLC!!!

It's an awesome day and if a lot of people out there are still considering whether to do this or the Mutual ride I strongly recommend the RLC. ALL $$$$ from RLC are dontated in full to the charities listed on ridelikecrazy.com so the benefit is two fold, for your $100 you enjoy a great day on the saddle and some deserving charities get a nice cheque at the end of it all. Mutual ride however the money is tied up in admin and who knows what else.

For me it was an easy choice to make, ride the Mutual ride and pay $145 with little in return or ride with some top blokes through the hills and help some great causes at the same time.

Still 4 days to get entry in online and score the RLC jersey too.

Get on board everyone!

See you there!!
edited by Brett Symons on 26/11/2009
edited by Brett Symons on 26/11/2009

Brett, that's really great news for you mate.

I missed most of ACA tonight; I got home late and was in the kitchen talking to my missus when one of my kids said "Hey, there's something on TV about cycling." I only caught the last 30 seconds of the story, so I'm a bit ****ed off with myself.

I won't be laughing at you mate because I am the epitome of the 'reverse attack', especially when those roads go upwards!

Gary,

Full remission mate. Found out couple weeks ago. Final MRI's and CT's were clear as a bell so a few surgeries & Radiation did it's job. Bloody stoked. Not easy but made it.

Looking fwd to the RLC. Should be awesome.

I have no idea what the hell I was saying on ACA so literally anything could end up on the TV haha. I remember almost nothing of what I talked about I was that nervous. Oh well. Gave it a shot which is all that matters I suppose at times like these. Worthy cause and all. If you see me out on the road don't laugh too hard ha!

Good work guys!

Rode this event last year after being asked to by good mates who worked with 'Crazy' to join in. Not being a Police Officer myself made no difference on the day. These guys were all fantastic and great to ride with and was an amazing feeling to participate for such a good cause. Some of the old war stories from the older guys made for some hilarious moments while riding too.

Have had my own bout with the dreaded C this year too at tender age of 28 with radiation treatment and so on and only hits home the reality of this disease even more. GET ON IT PEOPLE and sign up! This years course is going to be great and there is no better cause when this stuff can and sadly will affect lots of people we know. Been talking with Scutch a fair bit about this years event and my ugly mug looks like it will even be appearing on ACA shortly to give a bit of a spiel on the ride.

Sign up everyone! It's a great day and as said above it's a tops way to begin a great week of cycling.

Hi all,
I just did the course this morning minus the 20km loop to Littlehampton & Woodside. I must say it was thoroughly enjoyable, one of the best courses I've ridden for a while. For those of you whom this is your first year of riding it's a perfect introduction to long distance hill climbing (as is the case for my riding buddy). For those who are mountain goats, this is a chance to get a 30km/hr+ average. The ascents are gradual & quick, perfect for mixing it up with big gears.

I will be doing it, no doubt, it's the perfect lead-up to the TDU.

My congrats to the planning team, job well done.

If you would like see the map & elevation profile click on the link below
http://www.ridelikecrazy.com/downloads/Ride_Like_Crazy_2010_Map.pdf

edited by Cos on 7/11/2009
edited by Cos on 7/11/2009

I know this will be another fantastic day out. Last year was memorable and great to see 'Scutcho' running it again - I know with the the big man at the helm it will be a smoothly run operation. You don't need a better excuse to get out on the bike to prepare for the ride than this! (Maybe even convince the missus a new bike is in order!).

Good to see the name retained and SAPOL getting behind this community event. Great thing is even a battler like me on my bike that weighs about 28 kg can get through it - encourage one and all to join in folks!

RG

I've registered for the full-ride and my two sons, aged 14 and 11, have registered for the shorter 53 clicks starting at Woodside.

See you on the road.

This is an awesome event, superbly ran and you can't get any better support for a road cycling event than having it supported by SAPOL. The cause is also one that in this case, affected a SAPOL member, but is common enough to have affected people we know so what better way to raise the support of cancer than to participate in this event.

It was a great day when it was held this year and it sounds better next year, and what more it starts and finishes in the city, so you won't be able to miss the first day of the TDU.
