I noticed mention of the "Aldgate 100". Can someone tell me what this event is and how I might get involved? Had a look at Google and found not much other than the date for this year. Thanks.

Pretty vague response Robert, you can do better than that...
or perhaps you don't want additional competition?

Dont worry, about all I can do is hold up the bar.... If you log onto the Hillclimbr website (google ) and look up the Tour de Adelaide cycling group you should be able to make contact with one of the regular riders. I have never knowingly ridden with this group so wasnt prepared to comment in my previous post for fear of treading on anybodies toes hence for more infomation contact them. I am intending on trying out this ride myself for the first time. I dont race either. I only do a couple of rides a week and spend more time on an RPM bike

The Aldgate 100 is a ride organised by a small cycling group called Tour D Adelaide. See http://www.tourdadelaide.com .
It is a handicap race with a small trophy given to the winner. In the past the trophy winner has to be a regular rider with the group to stop non group members coming in and winning and then never showing up again.
Anyone can ride in the group (weekly satuday rides starting at 1:30pm) which due to the super competitive attitudes ends up with the group splitting towards the end. The weekly rides are usually 60 - 80km and start from and finish at a pub in the Adelaide Hills. We sometimes even stop at a pub for a rest half way through the ride.
Each year we have a few special rides including the Aldgate 100, Groundshaker Memorial, Charleston Bridgwater Time Trial, Langhorne Creek Time Trial. At the end of the year we have a prize for the most consistant rider with a bbq and beers.
We are a bunch of pricks to ride with but we have a great time. The leader of our group is known as Chang and as hard as I try he still leads the bike crash competition.

apparently you're not Matthew, according to the Sarge, he is "so slow, he makes slow people look fast". Kinda like hearing Anthony Mundine trying to get all Ali-esque at yesterday's press conference "I'm so fast, I can't even see myself..."

Hi, Matthew I thought I lasted longer than 10 minutes as managed to only ose the group shortly before Echunga.....but youre right there is always next week. Somehow just sitting on Tonys back wheel didnt seem all that interesting - ended up pushing the group along abit too good. See you out there next week, looks as if Noel is considering Mclaren Flat next week - a good happy hunting ground for me (just got to learn to sit on the group a bit longer). Thanx for the ride Matthew, was heaps of fun By the way not sure what happened with Murrays Hill Road with everyone flying past at the bottom and forming the pack a few hundred yards up the road (not sure why nobody hopped onto my back wheel when I strolled past?)

Did the Aldgate 100 in 3 hrs 24.1 minutes. Turned out to be a really good ride with lots of ups and downs. Unfortunately Im not good at descending and got dropped on the downhill run on Paris Creek Road. Found out a few areas I can improve on for next years challenge which is the good thing about cycling. The crew were mostly happy as no punctures, blow outs or crashes. The odd person not thrilled with the handicapper who actually won the event, not so much through handicap but lots of good fortune. Next time I will have to hang on better to Andys Tour d Adelaide express when it gets rumblin on the down hill stretches. Now I know the course for the Aldgate 100 there are a few really good places to launch attacks and breakaways off the group. If anyone can offer some good advice about how to launch a successful breakaway please post it for me (but I suspect very few breakaways are ever successful off a large group). Hats off to Martin who I dropped on Battunga Road and came back like Lazarus and passed me in the few dying kms up the Aldgate Valley Road finishing ahead of me (well done mate) . Maybe the ride up the OLd Freeway prior to the event was alittle too much for me. Enjoyed the day and thanx to the Tour D Adelaide who put together this handicap event - I will hold the handicapper to 16 minutes handicap for next year....
