On my morning ride yesterday I saw countless numbers of commuter cyclists breaking all sorts of basic road rules.
I got me thinking that no wonder a lot of drivers out there keep banging on about cyclists needing to be registered.
Even though I totally oppose the idea myself, after seeing some of these idiots on their way to work, I'm not surprised many motorists think it's a good idea.

I saw one guy cross the lights on red at the intersection of Greenhill and Anzac Highway...a BIG intersection and yet he quite happily lane jumped to the middle and then again to the opposite side of the road and continued his ride down Anzac Hwy.

Another guy was riding towards oncoming traffic further down Anzac Hwy and decided at the last minute to jump up the gutter and then proceed down the footpath.

Stuff like this gives the rest of the law abiding cyclists out there a bad image and it truly annoys the crap out of me!

I`ve noticed things like that too

I generally have a prob with pedestrians who think its ok not to look when crossing the road. They`ll just start crossing the road so you have to take evasive action or work out which side to pass them

A Yellow cab number 874 tonight pulled out of his park straight in front of me - he saw me before he pulled out - deliberate act!! Lucky for him Im fairly restrained as I saw he had his window open...lots of oppotunity to get even as the adrenaline was pumping. Think a Liverpool kiss would have been appropriate...

yeah it gets pretty scary out there sometimes. I got abused while riding home last week for no reason whatsoever...just waiting at a red light and a couple of kids decided to hang out the window and gave me a verbal spray! Then i thought of that story about 'mad march' on the news...apparently this time of year with the seasonal change people go a bit crazy.....or some crap like that..

On the same day I saw the craziest woman in the world. How she did not get hit by 4 cars is a miracle and I was equally as p***ed of the reputation she gives all bike riders. Mutual repsect, not that hard. I drive a car too !! Never come close to hitting a bike rider or motorcyclist (albeit I have hit a car :-) )

I was abused by a fellow cyclist while driving the car last Friday on the way to work. I was happily travelling along down Old Belair Road at about 30km/h after the Scotch College round-about when I start to hear this voice yelling 'Move' several times. After first thinking that it was maybe the radio, I look back in the rear view mirror to see this big bloke on a road bike wearing a dark t-shirt and and slip-on shoes/thongs, virtually right in my blind spot. There he was complaining and gesturing that he couldn't get past between my car and the curb. This is as we are travelling downhill around a slight left hand bend. I lowered the passenger window to give this guy a serve when he did go past but thought better of it being that I was also a cyclist. This guy was already an accident waiting to happen and I just didn't want to be the cause.

Is it just me or is that just plain stupidity? He had no lights and this was at about 7.30am before Daylight Savings had finished. If I hadn't heard him, (and I obviously hadn't seen him approach from behind) it scares me to think what might have happened if he'd tried to get past before I got close to the curb. I'm not adverse to cyclists passing traffic on the inside like this but only at the lights or where the traffic is crawling or where there is plenty of room - not at that speed on a downhill bend!!

As a cyclist, I've always been cautious in traffic because you just don't know what a car will do. While I don't think you should ride in fear (as you may as well not bother at all) surely you have to ride with a little common sense.
