Anyone get out to do the Grand Slam #2 on Sunday? Just interested in your thoughts on the ride.

Yep, it was a bit of a tough start and I found Loop 1 a bit of a push. Had my second wind for Loop 2 so really enjoyed that, even with the long hill towards the end. I thought I had ridden the first loop a few weeks earlier but we had taken a wrong turn straight away then (which was nice and flat) so it was a surprise to hit some hills from the word go :-) Great weather for it. Not many groups happening/forming out there, so much of the ride was spent pushing through on my own. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to Yankallila in 4-5 weeks time.

Nah, Didnt do the Grand Slam, instead did a Blackwood Mega Bike ride in the morning and a Tour D Adelaide ride in the afternoon and rode to and from each one and made up about 230 km for the day. It was excellent weather for it. edited by Robert Rau on 21/04/2009

That's a solid day in the saddle Rob, nice work.
Found the ride excellent, same as previous post the bunches were not really about so rode it solo as well but the conditions were great. Took a bit for the legs to get going but midway through the first loop I got going.
Looking forward to #3.

Was a reasonably tough course I thought, up and down the whole way. Cheers and many thanks to the 8-12 guys in the group that rode hard over the last 40km, was brilliant.

I thought I was a real lot better than I am. Pushed hard in loop 1, made good time (for me) and had a quick break between the two loops. Hit the wall in loop 2, and it hurt for about 25 km. Watched one huge group trundle past and couldn't even pick up the back of that. Good learning exercise. The interesting thing was my average time wasn't a real lot different but the comfort and enjoyment were worlds apart. The next one should be good. Does anybody have a profile for the loops?

Grand Slam 100km 2009 ride profile In the same folder are some of the profiles and grade changes which I have logged for standard hills around Adelaide. As discussed with Adam, the logged profiles can be quite different to the profiles generated from the internet mapping services which use generated data from the mapped data points. I will add to them in time. The profiles I have loaded are the result of riding the routes and logging with a Garmin 705.

Rode Loop 1 of GS#4 with a couple of mates on Sunday. We left Echunga just after 7am and it was freezing!!!!!!!!!! My car was showing 2 degrees. Had all the warm stuff on, bt it was the fingers that felt it the most, thought they were gonna drop off for the first 1hr!! From Echunga to Woodside certainly a tough start with a few hills involved. (Although nothing like that hill on loop 1 of GS#3!!) A great coffee and some brekky at Woodside and off again. Quite a reasonable 30 odd km's back to Echunga. After that first couple of hours, whilst still cold, it was a magnificant day with the sun out and barely a breath of wind. I think it was near Flaxley, but appeared to be a cycling race on? Not sure what event this was but I think there was a drink station with a few riders that had stopped there. Quite a challenging 75 odd KM's and was only thinking after I'd finished how could I possibly do another 75km!! Hoping to do loop 2 this weekend and try to keep doing one loop per week until the event.
