I went to Megabike yesterday for a special presentatin for the new Shimano Dura Ace Electronic.I must say, its quite impressive. It shifts so perfect everytime & the option of having mutiple gear selection buttons will make Time trialling fantastic

Ive had a go with it. I found while the front shifting was super quick and clean, the rear shifting was much the same as with 7900. I wasnt too keen for the lack of "feel" with each change either, not being able to feel when the change is made.
Of course, this is just my opinion - it is a fantastic little bit of technology, but I wouldnt use it in its current iteration...
*EDIT* Have fixed the message so it actually makes sense... edited by bJay on 14/06/2009 edited by bJay on 14/06/2009

I've heard that it's heavier than 7900, and therefore the top Campy and SRAM groups too. So unless they're specialist sprinters or time-triallists, most rich bastards (or pros) would probably opt to save weight as well as money. It'd be interesting to know how many orders local shops are getting, though.
If I were riding with someone who had it, I'd try squirting the battery and motors with my water bottle to see if I could short it out :-)

Have been told that the Electronic dura ace should work in a fish tank. Not so sure i would part with the 5 grand, and got no hope of being sponsored like most of us plebs and weekend warriors. Think I will stick with my retro Mavic friction downtube shifters (which were and still good enough for Eddy Merckx), never had trouble finding a gear with these, and still ultra smooth after twenty years of use. (and I dont need to worry about Michael squirting water on my bike either).

wewll the guy from Shimano reckons its only 68 grams more than 7900 which is impressive. But you`d want to get very used to it before racing or sprinting with it

The criticism I've heard from everyone who's reviewed or played with it is that the up & down buttons are too close together, especially with long-fingered gloves. But that'll be a trivial thing for Shimano to change, and I predict multiple shifter models with the buttons in different places to accommodate different preferences.
