Hey Everyone,
Its time to get back on the track so I have decided to purchase a new bike. Out with the old Euro and in with the new ?? I was looking at spending around 2k which put me in the market for either a Felt Tk2 or Jamis Sonik 09, both look pretty good value.
After searching the net trying to find the best price I come across another conetnder - Focus Izalco Pista 2009. You can buy the bike from Wiggle in UK, delivered to Australia for $2900 - complete. I decided to research the Focus and discovered its actually an Avanti Pista Team which retails in Austalia anywhere up to $5k for frame and fork only. Both Focus and Avanti websites confirm the exact same frame is used an only some of the decals are replaced. For the xtra $900 why wouldnt I upgrade....
My Questions are.. *How can it even be possible to sell the Avanti in Aust. for that price when you can buy the exact same frame kitted out with carbon components for 2k less?? AND *Should I take the risk of purchasing the Focus and assume both Focus and Avanti sites are correct?

I might be corrected on this but it's my understanding that wiggle can offer things cheap to australia because alot of the taxes don't apply.
The Focus bike even has an Avanti decal on it, Focus would not do this if it were not a Avanti and equally Avanti would not let them if it was not!
I think your on to a winner!!! FS.

Hi, Just got back from looking in a bike shop in BSD, Jakarta called "Rodda link". They actually are agent for Colnago (usually all you find in most places are MTB s as the roads can be pretty dodgy here. One bike I saw had an upmarket Colnago frame (between the Extreme power and CLX) with Dura Ace 7900 and Dura Ace wheels. Asking price was 88 million (rupiah) about $11-000 AUD. For about 15 million rupiah(less than $2000 AUD) you can buy a yamaha and pollute the environment to your hearts content - Indonesia is sometimes viewed as the eye into the future and is surprizingly true. With 230 million people here (150 million on Java and 12 million in Jakarta alone) many international companies will try out a new product here so see if it sells. Indonesians are keen consumers and extremely practical when it comes to problem solving. Only problem being is that the environment here cant cope with so many consumers and many people comment about how Jakarta has become warmer in the last 10 years. Questions about where the future energy requirements are going to come from are being asked. Buildings here are airconditioned concrete with no insulation. My prediction is that power consumption will sky rocket here in Jakarta in the next ten years as the climate warms. I think the price of trees here in Java will go up tremendously as there are areas here where I you can see is rusty tin roof tops as far as the eye can see (at least as far as the cloud of pollution allows). It saddens me when you realise if we will have the same if we dont change our ways. In fact it is frightening to see what we can become..........most of us could not cope living like many people do in Jakarta in this very extreme environment. At least a good friend of mine decided to leave the car in his garage once per week and rides to work 10 km. at least its a start and he has recruited his work mates to do the same......I told him about Adelaide and the bike lanes and Bike SA with their bike programme, and the many cafe rides available......hopefully I will see a bike movement here where people will use bikes more for recreation and stick it up the Singaporeans Will be there next week
