Just wondering who took part last weekend and managed the full 200km ride. It was my first Grand Slam Series, and each ride was my longest. I learned a few things from Grand Slam # 4, particularly ensuring I ate as much food at each of the stops that I could!!!! I haven't seen my calori counter show as many calories burned in a session, and it was really necessary to eat plenty and take my Gel's at good intervals.
It was a really cold start to the day which kicked off at 6.30am from Littlehampton.. Had the long sleeves and leg warmers for first 100km. Apart from the fresh start the weather was outstanding. Very slight breeze (unlike the strong headwind coming home in GS #4), and the sun was out, very nice.
The last section after the refreshment stop was a real mind game in getting back. Particularly with what I think was called Deviation Road - that was a killer being near the end of the ride!!!

Yeah i did it my hands froze in the first part of the ride. Was good though. Didnt think that going from strath to mount barker via wistow was a good idea got abused by a few drivers. I think that a good strategy for 200km is to pace yourself and eat every 30 mins. I saw some people go past me at race pace with the look of pain on there face and thought there never gonna make it to the end of 200km. I also thought that the second loop was harder than the first they should done it the other way around. Those little hills in the second loop killed me by the end.

I was intrigued that they ran us into Mt Barker from Strath on the main road. I figure there must be a reason that I'm missing, it can't just be to make the kilometres because a bit of a click around on google maps makes it easy to find an appropriate loop.
