Assuming this will be the biggest and best TDU coming to town in January with the likes of Cadell and Armstrong amongst other draw cards and hopefully Bobridge hitting the scene, asked the boss at work if she started training for it yet to which she replied no not yet. Brave boss I thought as 100 mile is along way for most of us plebs. Wheres Pat Jonker this year with his cycling series teaching us a few tips.....need a bit more hipe other than just the usually Lance is our hero (sorry no disrepect for the man but hopefully the research into cancer message isnt forgotten in all that theatrical smoke and pollys which want their photo taken with him).

I saw Pat Jonker post Week 1 of his training guide in the Advertiser on Thursday 26 November. Not sure if this has continued I've missed the last few weeks papers.

Thanks for that Paul. Found a copy of The Tiser from Tues 1st December and week 2 was printed there. Looks like they have gone to Tuesdays.

Hey you guys. here is an idea...
I know a fantastic ride that you could do as a warm up for the 160km Challenge Tour.
Its called Ride Like Crazy. smooth 100km with a couple of hills and 5 sleeps to rest it off before the Friday.
Better still what about encouraging all of your mates who are doing the Mutual ride to do RLC...
Speaking of Pat Jonkers, I have it on good authority that he is riding in Ride Like Crazy. If you can keep up with him, I'm sure he would be happy to share a few tips....
Looking forward to an exciting January....

Hey Paul. Great idea. Not sure how to respond to that one... It raises a few questions though.
Would it encourage you to register for RLC? I would love to have you and all of your cycling mates onboard.
Have you got any ideas on how to do it? I am more than willing to work hard but it's a bit like having a spade and lots of engergy but not knowing where to dig.
Rest assured though mate, I am working as hard as I can to get as many people from all corners of the planet onboard.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

I forgot the Down Under Classic is also on Sunday. I don't know what sort of training ride the pros would do the day of the Classic.

Apparently Lance is planning a "twitter ride" as he now has a habit of diong, presumaeably during traiing the week before. If you want to ride with the man, that's your best bet.
Another way to meet Lance is by getting involved with Cancer Council SA during TDU. I mentioned a while ago Cancer Council's "Unite in the Fight" campaign that gives you a chance to turn your TDU ride into a fundraising challenge for cancer. As official charity partner for TDU they have access to some amazing prizes including tickets to the Legends dinner which Lance is a confirmed starter at apparently. (Though personally I'm more keen to get hold of a new Garmin 605, but that's just me).
But back to training. I'm hanging out for my leave between Christmas and New Year when i can get on the bike pretty much every day and hopefully take my training for TDU up a notch or two.

Also on the Sunday (and Friday and Saturday) of the classic is the Australian Mountain Bike Championships at Eagle MTB Park just near Eagle on the Hill. The Sunday has the awesome Down Hill racing program which you have to see to believe. The riding skill and guts of these guys is fantastic. Head here first then check out the Classic for great day of cycling - all in little old Adelaide! Check out the website http://www.eaglechamps.com/cms/

Pat Jonkers training guide has taken a different direction than last years hill climbing technique instruction guide. It is interesting how it included alot about interval training. Ridden some of the TDU course and seems like Fox Creek and the Gorge Road from the bridge to the Kangaroo Creek Dam Wall are the only serious inclines....if you can grin and bear these, then you should get over the line.....but if there are gusty head winds from Milang to Goolwa then it will be like riding a giant long hill:' Keep up the training and hydrate well everyone and have fun out there
