Hi all, I need some new wheels. I currently have a set of Mavic Ksyrium Equipe. I have noticed that on hill climbs when i get out of the saddle that they are flexing and rubbing on the brake blocks. Just wondering if anyone could recomend an upgraded wheelset? Is carbon the way to go? Please help!

They should be pretty stiff wheels, if they're in good shape, and if they're flexing you ought to hear creaking or pinging noises from them - more likely it's your frame. How close are the pads to the wheels? You can probably go out as far as 2mm without problems.
A guy as heavy as you ought to be riding on hand-built 36/28 spoke wheels with deep V rims, but that's more for reliability than stiffness.

Have you checked the axle play and spoke tension? A wheelbuilder at your LBS could do this cheaply.

That's not easy one. Have you tried to find them in on-line shops?

Hey Mark, a set of SL's, Fulcrum racing ones or zeros will fix it, don't need to open the brakes. Some of the guys riding with me are using the aforementioned and are of your stature, so shouldn't have any issues. I had a shop tension my cheap rims (aksiums), no improvement, still rubbed the pads when out of the saddle. You will love the extra stiffness, and still silky smooth, and just factory rims too? so go figure... Stay away from carbon unless tubular. Carbon Tubular are a whole new level of brilliance, I would buy some myself if it wasn't for the glue/puncture issues... edited by Cos on 26/04/2010
