Hi there, I am looking for a physiotherapist / medical practitioner who may be able to help me. I am currently having problems sitting on the bike. My body is twisted causing pain and discomfort. Can any one recommend a good cycling specific operator (physiotherapist, massage etc.) in Adelaide who may be able to help? Non cycling types just recommend not riding, not much of a solution in my opinion.

Hi David,
Along with seeing someone to fix your aches and pains, you should also get your bike setup looked at to fix the cause. There is nothing more fantastic (and comfortable) than riding on a bike that has been setup by someone that knows what they are doing.

I agree bike setup is very important, I have a very bad back and it almost stops me from riding. I got a bike setup done at the velodrome, bicycle express and JT Cycles. All have good equipment to measure your body and make your ride more comfortable.

Have you tried a chiropracter - assume so if it is bad back. I also have bad back, only recently starting using a Chiro as was very sceptical but it has been great so far. Just another option???

i work with steve hogg in sydney. he writes for cyclingnews.com . i had some bad crash injuries and now im good thanks to steves advice and my dramatic lifestyle changes. got some custom shoes made up too. made from scratch. now i can ride 300km in the drops. 500km in the aero bars.
steve nash at corsa cycles in gouger st is my pick. steve is a passionate cyclist himself. he has fitted up many national class riders and novices of all shapes and sizes. steve nash is my pick if your in adelaide.
heck, my road bike is 10.5kg and im setting pb's on it over the last month. its amusing the crew go and shop around to save cash but just get bikes that are light and dont even fit them as good as they could..
one of my mates spent almost a grand at sports med (porsche med) and they just kept getting him back and back. then booked him in for an arthroscopy. they never recommended him get fitted up by someone reputable. i was out riding and noticed his cleat and knee relationship. we stopped riding and did an on the bike adjustment to bring his ankle in. problem solvered and porsche med lost a repeat customer..lol!
people are riding bikes that dont fit. they go spend bucks on surburban bone crackers and most quit the sport. sad to see. im into treating the cause rather than band aiding the symptom.
measuring limbs doesnt mean much. you can have too people genetically identical with same bone length and muscle mass and body fat %. but they will have different pedalling styles and flexibility. experienced cycle fitters have an eye for this. young punk number crunchers dont yet. it takes years of experience to have an eye for human movement. its not numbers that anyone can crunch out. edited by harley j on 2/03/2009
