Congratulations to everyone involved with this, a fantastic effort. Although I didn't take part I will for sure in 2010.
Cheers

Please take the time to read this. Cancer is a disease that affects all of us at one stage or another.....
On 22nd January 650 riders took part in Ride Like Crazy. Roughly 360 from Marion to Victor Harbor (137km) and roughly 270 from Ashbourne to Victor Harbor (67km). They were supported by 150 registered supporters. The riders were led out by Mick "Crazy" Koerner in a stretched hummer from HUMMERSA.
Conditions on the day were testing, even for the best of riders, and upon turning from Goolwa towards Port Elliott, riders were confronted with a head wind that slowed even the toughtest cyclists to a crawl. But with the spirit of Crazy, it was heads down and into it for a mate.....
Upon reaching Victor Harbor, riders and supporters enjoyed a Subway and bbq kindly donated by T and R Pastoral[/b], washed down with a few cold beers. All this while watching the TDU riders cross the finish line.
Friday night saw Auction for Crazy, 400 people at The Highway, all enjoying a fantastic meal (again thanks to T and R Pastoral) and beer and wine donated by various sponsors including Bleasdale, Lake Breeze and Heidenreich. Framed jerseys donated by Stuart Ogrady, Lance Armstrong and various other sporting identies were auctioned with a grand total of $20,000 raised on the night.
In all, $80,000 was raised for the Mick Koerner Foundation, an amount that will no doubt help the family immensely as he continues his brave fight....
Although it is very early, every indication is that Ride Like Crazy will happen again in 2010 with funds being donated to a cancer related charity/organisation.
Should you be either: (a) interested in riding in 2010 (b) intererested in supporting in 2010 (c) keen to keep updated with the progress of Ride Like Crazy (d) know of a sponsor who may be interested in supporting this fantastic cause
please email info@ridelikecrazy.com or david.scutchings@police.sa.gov.au
remember, cancer touches every one of us at one stage or another. lets get on the bikes and fight it head on....

I know some people who did the ride and may do it next year myself.. The main reason I didn't do it this year though was that it was the day before the Challenge Tour and I'd already planned to do that.. Whilst I'm sure I could have done one ride after the other (albeit probably with a sore ass!) I thought it would be safer to stick with just doing the Challenge Tour..
Any chance the ride can/will be planned with at least a day between the two?

Firstly thanks for organising a great day for a great cause & for putting in what must have been a lot of your own time.
Nine of us from work did the 65km ride from Ashbourne & besides the hellish wind from Goolwa to Pt Elliot & up Crows Nest had a good ride & am sure we'd all be keen to go again in 2010. Half of us followed up with the 155km Challenge Tour the day after & with us doing a fair bit of training over the christmas break managed two finish both without any problems. I was even thinking of doing the full distance for both next year but will hold on that decision until I see the routes.
A day in between would be nice but may be difficult for people to get a day off Wed then back to work Thurs & then off again Fri. I was able to get the whole week off so if I can organise that next year it wouldn't be a problem.

Guys
thanks for the feedback. I/we appreciate it. When the ride date was first chosen it was going to be just 20 guys from work. Little did we know that it would gain momentum like an avalanche. A days break will be a definite consideration next year (ie we will definitely have a days break).
If you have any other feedback that is also greatly appreciated. (i happily accept positive and negative feedback)
In the meantime if you can encourage any of your mates who ride to send me their details to add to the database that would be great.
thanks again

Hi Dave
Have sent you emails directly thanking you, but thought I would add to the comments posted here. So big thanks again to you and all of your team for the outstanding job you all did in organising this event, and making it all a fantastic day out for us riders! Huge thanks to all of your volunteers too, manning the most welcome drink stations along the way, and then the lunch at Soldiers Reserve which went down a treat! Hope the officer who was manning the last drink station and hurt her foot and was walking on crutches at the reserve recovered ok. This was the only injury I noticed for the day!
Would also like to thank Tina again for organising the bus ride back to Marion, saved me a return ride of 100km, which left me fresh for Friday!
I rode the full distance for RLC, then backed it up the following day and rode the full distance of the Challenge ride too, with a return ride from Angaston to Gawler train station. Distance training for the event certainly helped, this included a number of 200km plus rides leading up to the week of the Tour. (What can I say, I like sitting on the corner there at Subway Victor Harbor!)
I look forward to joining in again next year, and hope to drag along some more guys from work, and get them to do both rides with me.
My only downside was I could not join in on any of the social events at the Hotels, as I was committed to rides, and this wasn't the carbo loading I was looking for at the time!
Thanks Dave, your team, the volunteers, Tina, and all of the sponsors for a fantastic day.
Mark.
